Über die Erstsprache zur Fremdsprache

Abstract:
Mit dem Aufstreben kommunikativer Ansätze in der Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts ist die Übersetzung als Lehrmethode im Sprachunterricht in Verruf geraten. Doch gerade in Brasilien, wo der alltägliche Bezug zu anderen Sprachen fehlt, kann Übersetzen und Sprachmitteln dabei helfen, sowohl die Fremdsprache als auch die Erstsprache zu festigen und das transkulturelle Verständnis zu fördern. Spätestens seit 2018, mit dem neuen Begleitband des Gemeinsamen europäischen Referenzrahmens, sollte zumindest die Sprachmittlung wieder fest im Fremdsprachenunterricht verankert sein. Ihr wird jedoch sowohl in Europa als auch in Brasilien verschwindend wenig Platz eingeräumt und teilweise werden translatorische Lehrmethoden immer noch tabuisiert. Diese Arbeit beleuchtet den Zusammenhang zwischen den beiden Fachgebieten, Translation und Fremdsprachendidaktik. Im Sinne eines kompetenzbasierten Ansatzes wird diskutiert, wie sowohl Sprachmittlung als auch Übersetzung im professionellen Sinne zielführend im Deutsch-als-Fremdsprache-Unterricht eingesetzt werden können und warum dies ein Einbeziehen von Translationswissenschaft in die Ausbildung von Deutschlehrenden erfordert. Meine empirische Untersuchung mittels Fragebogen für Deutschlehrende in Brasilien und Interviews mit sachkundigen Fachleuten zeigt, dass es Lehrenden an grundlegendem Verständnis translationswissenschaftlicher Theorien fehlt und dass übersetzungs- oder sprachmittlungsbezogene Lehrmethoden im Unterricht kaum Anwendung finden. ; With the emergence of communicative approaches in the mid-20th century, translation as a teaching method in language teaching has fallen into disrepute. But especially in Brazil, where there is little confrontation with other languages in everyday life, translating and mediating can help strengthen both foreign and native language proficiency and promote transcultural understanding. At least since 2018, with the new Companion Volume of the Common European Framework of Reference, linguistic mediation should be recovered as an integral part of foreign language teaching. Nevertheless, it is still granted a very limited space, both in Europe and in Brazil, and in some places, translational teaching methods are still considered taboo. The present thesis examines the relationship between the two disciplines translation and foreign language didactics. Following a competence-based approach, it is discussed, how linguistic mediation and even translation in the professional sense can be purposefully applied in classes of German as a Foreign Language and why this requires integrating translation studies into the training of German teachers. My empirical investigation, which is based on a questionnaire for German teachers in Brazil and interviews with subject matter experts, shows that teachers lack basic understanding of translational theories and that teaching methods involving translation or linguistic mediation are scarcely used in class.
